Getting more traffic is a way to reach more potential customers – notice that with the term traffic, I’m referring to people who may be interested in your stuff, not a useless number on Google Analytics.

  1. hey Mauro,

I used to think lengthy posts and lists style articles are time wasters, and B.S. Without judging others intentions, I believe this (and other similar resource type content) is advantageous for three main reasons:

    1. It gives visitors relevant links (food for thought and research material) that most people wouldn’t have found on their own due to lack of time or research skills, or both

    2. It gives readers the option and freedom to select what clicks with them the most, without imposing a limiting belief or weak vision on a topic.

    3. It helps anybody who’s looking to blog comment or guest post on other sites to have instant access to dozen of links, and add them to their “swipe file” collection

Can you think of a few other benefits to reading resource type of articles? :)

    Best!

    • Hi John, these are great points and I completely agree with you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

I’d add that you can know other quality blogs, which is always a good thing.

Back to the utility of list posts, my opinion is that it depends on the intent of the author.
When a person publishes a list post for the only purpose of publishing something, you’ll smell it a kilometer away, and sure it’s a time waster post.
On the other hand, when the author want to give value to his readers, the list post become a very powerful resource.

What do you think about this?

      • definitely, and you just gave me an idea for a “resource” type of post… if you allow guest posts, then I’d love to post/share it with your audience, as I feel like they deserve the best! It should be done by FRI.

        Just let me know…

  2. Jason says:

Great and very useful list Mauro.

Just thought that this recent post of mine might be helpful to your readers (it’s a case study I did start of this year on how to increase search traffic, using Analytics data and a few basic on-site optimization methods):

  3. An outstanding post, Mauro. You’ve done it again!

This is definitely one I’ve booked marked. And thanks for the mention!

Keep the awesome content coming, my friend. :)

  4. Iain says:

This is a fantastic list Mauro.

I saw it a couple days ago, and now I am back again because it is so epic.

My personal favourite is the Slideshare guest post you did on Traffic Generation Cafe.

I’ve tried it a couple times, but I haven’t hit the featured page yet. I’m sure with some effort I will be able to.

    Great job.

    • Thank you, Iain!

I’m glad you found it helpful.

SlideShare is really powerful, I completely love it.
You just have to learn what works and what doesn’t – study some of the best presentations and you’ll learn a lot ;)

      • Iain says:

I guess I will have to do some research to see what the big dogs are doing, and hopefully I can repeat the process.

        Thanks again for the post.

  5. Its like you read my mind! You appear to
know so much about this, like you wrote the e book in it or something.
I think that you simply can do with a few percent to force the message home a little bit, however instead of that,
this is fantastic blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
